Binance restores 90% of assets following $6.3 billion hack

Cryptocurrency exchange Binance announced it has replaced 90 percent of the $6.3 billion in assets drained from its hot wallets earlier this week. The platform is utilizing its Secure Asset Fund for Users (SAFU), portions of its futures insurance fund, and corporate treasury reserves to cover the losses.

The FBI confirmed late Saturday that North Korean actors were responsible for the breach. While Binance has restored the majority of the stolen funds, it noted that the remaining 10 percent of assets, which are less liquid, will require additional time to source. The exchange stated it intends to fully replace all stolen tokens to ensure users are not financially impacted.

Binance plans to resume withdrawal services on Sunday, pending the completion of final security audits. This incident stands as the largest digital asset theft on record, exceeding by nearly double the total volume of crypto assets stolen globally throughout 2025.
