Binance seeks path to resume regulated operations in Malaysia

Binance has been engaged in negotiations with the Securities Commission Malaysia and Bank Negara Malaysia for the past 10 months regarding a potential return to the market. Despite these talks, the exchange’s digital platforms remain blocked in the country, and Binance has not clarified which specific regulatory license it intends to pursue.

Malaysian authorities originally ordered the exchange to cease operations in July 2021. Since then, the platform has fluctuated on and off the regulator’s investor alert list, most recently appearing on it again in October 2026. To operate legally in Malaysia, firms must register as a recognized market operator for digital assets.

The company’s regulatory efforts follow past investments in MX Global, a licensed Malaysian crypto exchange. Beyond the regional hurdles, Binance continues to face international scrutiny, including investigations into platform practices and the fallout from a major security breach involving approximately $6.3 billion in assets.
