Fintech data provider BinBase announced the release of its updated 2026 BIN Database, aimed at improving payment routing accuracy for global fintech companies.
The new database contains over 3.2 million card ranges and 29 data attributes, offering expanded 8-11 digit precision. This addresses limitations of the previous 6-digit BIN system, which has caused misidentification and transaction failures as card ranges have lengthened.
BinBase's solution incorporates a "Waterfall Lookup Algorithm" that searches for matches sequentially from 11 digits down to 6. This method ensures precise identification and routing for every transaction.
The company stated that over 88% of its database consists of high-precision ranges (8–11 digits), allowing for accurate identification of sub-brands, currencies, and card tiers. The data also includes details on Durbin Regulation status, debit networks, and digital wallet token ranges.
BinBase highlighted that modern payment processing demands precision, and relying on outdated 6-digit BIN data in 2026 can lead to misclassified card products and higher interchange fees. The updated database provides developers with the intelligence needed to build resilient and cost-effective payment systems.
