Bird.com Secures $450 Million in Financing for AI Agent Communication Infrastructure

AI communication infrastructure company Bird.com has completed $450 million in debt financing, led by J.P. Morgan, Capital One, and Citi. The funding includes a $400 million term loan and a $50 million revolving credit facility.

Concurrently, Bird has unveiled a revamped Agentic Harness platform. This updated system allows AI agents to send messages, make calls, and manage emails without custom integrations. It also enables AI agents to obtain their own eSIM phone plans on Bird's network.

The company is focusing on the growing agent economy and expanding its presence in the United States. Bird anticipates achieving $165 million in EBITDA for 2025, following widespread internal automation. The workforce has been reduced from over 1,000 employees to 120, a consequence of automation rather than market contraction, leading to increased productivity and lower customer costs.

Robert Vis, Bird.com's founder and CEO, stated that the automation was implemented to boost productivity, not primarily to reduce staff. He noted the company now operates with a fraction of its previous workforce, enabling cost efficiencies. The financing also provides liquidity for existing shareholders.

The Agentic Harness component is designed for AI agents, granting them full access to Bird's systems for autonomous information management. This feature differentiates Bird.com from competitors like Twilio. The platform also supports multiple leading AI models, offering clients significant flexibility.
