Bittium implements post-quantum cryptography in security solutions
Bittium has integrated post-quantum cryptographic standards into its VPN and secure communication platforms to defend against future quantum computing threats.

The evolution of quantum computing poses a significant challenge to existing encryption standards. In response, the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) published new standards in August 2024 for quantum-resistant algorithms, including ML-KEM and ML-DSA, to protect digital infrastructure against future decryption capabilities.
Bittium has incorporated these standardized algorithms into its SafeMove Mobile VPN and Secure Call products. The company employs a hybrid approach, layering quantum-safe algorithms with traditional encryption. This structure ensures that even if one encryption method is compromised, the data remains protected by the secondary layer.
The industry faces the "harvest now, decrypt later" threat, where encrypted data is intercepted today with the intention of unlocking it once quantum hardware matures. As quantum computing progresses, Bittium and other security experts advise that organizations managing long-term sensitive data must begin transitioning to post-quantum standards to maintain information security.
