Bittium Reports Q1 Growth Driven by Defense Market

Espoo, Finland – Bittium Oyj's financial performance in the first quarter of 2026 showed solid growth, with net sales increasing by 10.2 percent year-on-year to EUR 21.3 million. The company attributes this rise primarily to increased demand in the Defense business, building on significant orders received at the end of last year.

The Defence & Security business segment saw its net sales grow by 24.1 percent to EUR 13.3 million, with an operating profit margin of 11.5 percent. Bittium's order backlog reached a record EUR 92.5 million, of which 75.6 percent came from this segment. While the Medical Business Segment also saw revenue growth, the Engineering Services revenue fell short of expectations due to a weak market.

Profitability improved significantly, with EBITDA reaching EUR 2.8 million (13.2% of net sales) and operating profit at EUR 1.5 million (7.0% of net sales). This improvement is linked to the positive impact of product-based revenue growth and operational efficiencies. Cash flow from operating activities also saw a substantial increase, rising to EUR 28.1 million from EUR 9.2 million in the prior year.

The company has continued to invest in high-security products and solutions, which is yielding results amid historically strong demand in the defense sector. Bittium has entered into several strategic partnerships, including a technology and production transfer agreement with Spain's Indra Group for the Bittium Tough SDR software-defined radio technology, and collaborations with KNL Networks Oy and Sensofusion Oy to enhance tactical communication and anti-drone system interoperability. Furthermore, Bittium secured a framework agreement with NATO's Communications and Information Agency (NCIA) to become a preferred supplier of its secure smartphones and VPN solutions to NATO member countries.
