BKK Pfalz and mkk plan merger
Two statutory health insurance funds, BKK Pfalz and mkk – meine krankenkasse, have signed a cooperation agreement aiming for a merger by the start of 2027. The move is intended to strengthen their market position.

German statutory health insurance providers BKK Pfalz and mkk – meine krankenkasse have announced plans to merge, with a formal union targeted for the beginning of 2027. A cooperation agreement has been signed and approved by the administrative boards of both organizations.
The healthcare insurance sector faces significant challenges including rising costs, digitalization demands, demographic shifts, and workforce shortages. Mergers are increasingly seen as a strategy to consolidate resources, ensure financial stability, and enhance future service offerings.
BKK Pfalz will contribute approximately 140,000 insured members to the combined entity, while mkk – meine krankenkasse will add around 520,000. Upon completion, the merged fund expects to serve over 650,000 customers.
mkk – meine krankenkasse brings extensive experience in mergers, having successfully completed nine previous integrations. BKK Pfalz indicated that the merger will also bolster its focus on prevention, sustainability, and gender-specific healthcare services.
