Black Exteriors Gain Popularity in Honkarakenne Homes

Honkarakenne Oyj, a manufacturer of log buildings, has observed a growing trend towards dark and black exteriors in modern architecture. This aesthetic preference has become increasingly evident in projects across Scandinavia, France, and Japan in recent years.

The black exterior offers a bold and contemporary look, particularly well-suited for Scandinavian architectural styles. It can also impart a sense of calm to more traditional homes. For instance, the Honka Markki property showcases a blend of black exteriors and natural wood elements, designed by architect Anssi Lassila using modern log building technology.

Another example is the Honka Saari collection, where a classic black and white combination creates a traditional ambiance for holiday homes. These properties feature a dark grey exterior finish that harmonizes with their surroundings. Architect Kari Leppänen's designs inspired the Saari collection.

The Honka Ink house exemplifies a compact, Scandinavian-style log home with a black exterior, drawing inspiration from Danish architecture. Additionally, Café Birgitta in Helsinki utilizes the Japanese Shou Sugi Ban technique, charring wood surfaces for enhanced durability. This café, a recipient of the Log House of the Year award in 2014, demonstrates an innovative approach to wood treatment.
