Bloomberg Launches AI Access Layer for Enterprise Data
Bloomberg has introduced Enterprise MCP, an AI access layer for its Data License Plus offering. The protocol aims to connect clients' AI applications with Bloomberg's financial data by providing context and metadata.

New York/London – Bloomberg has launched the Enterprise Model Context Protocol (MCP), an AI access layer for its next-generation Data License Plus (DL+) offering. Designed for the AI agent era, the solution enables clients' AI agents to discover, understand, and retrieve licensed Bloomberg data across more than 100 million securities and over 50,000 fields through a standardized MCP interface.
The protocol addresses a key challenge in integrating financial data with AI applications: the lack of sufficient context within the data itself. Bloomberg states that Enterprise MCP closes this gap by combining semantic context, AI-ready metadata, and workflow-focused "Skills." This provides AI agents with the necessary information to interpret data correctly and act with confidence across research, portfolio management, risk, and operations.
"As generative AI adoption in financial services has grown, the bottleneck facing financial institutions has shifted from model capability to data readiness," said Tony McManus, Global Head of Enterprise Data and Indices at Bloomberg. "Sometimes agents can't answer a basic question about a position because the data reaching them carries no indication of what it actually represents. A standalone last price doesn't say what currency it's in or what kind of price it is. Readiness, not connections, is what we built Enterprise MCP to solve."
The new solution promises to significantly accelerate the journey from question to answer. Instead of users manually hunting for the right datasets and reconciling identifiers, they can now ask for information in natural language and receive data that includes the necessary context, such as currency, pricing date, and related details.
Bloomberg plans to further extend Enterprise MCP with real-time data and offer a similar solution for Bloomberg Terminal subscribers in the future. The service aims to enhance AI utilization within financial workflows.
