Blue Earth Therapeutics begins clinical trial for prostate cancer treatment

Blue Earth Therapeutics and University College London (UCL) have commenced a Phase 1 clinical trial for Actinium (²²⁵Ac) rhPSMA-10.1 Injection, an investigational therapy for patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC). The study is sponsored by UCL and conducted at UCL Hospital in London.

The trial is designed to assess the safety, tolerability, and radiation dosimetry of Actinium (²²⁵Ac) rhPSMA-10.1 Injection. This targeted radiopharmaceutical therapy utilizes the alpha-emitting actinium-225 isotope and the rhPSMA-10.1 molecule to target prostate cancer cells.

Alpha-emitting radionuclides like actinium-225 deliver a high dose of energy over a short range, causing significant DNA damage to targeted cancer cells while aiming to reduce exposure to surrounding healthy tissue. This approach intends to deliver localized radiation directly to prostate cancer lesions.

Actinium (²²⁵Ac) rhPSMA-10.1 Injection represents Blue Earth Therapeutics' second clinical candidate utilizing its radiohybrid platform. The company also has an ongoing Phase 2 program with lutetium (¹⁷⁷Lu) rhPSMA-10.1. The strategy combines the precision of PSMA targeting with the potency of alpha-particle emission for advanced prostate cancer.
