Blue Origin plans $330 Million Florida Expansion

Jeff Bezos' space company Blue Origin announced plans to significantly upgrade its Florida launch infrastructure with a $330 million investment. The expansion aims to support multiple launches per week of its New Glenn heavy-lift rocket by the end of the decade.

The new investments will focus on enhancing launch and landing pads and increasing production capacity. Blue Origin plans to add two more launch and landing pads for the New Glenn rocket and boost its annual upper stage production to 150 units. The expansion is slated for completion in the summer of 2027.

"These investments are centered on one goal: building the capacity to support more missions, more reliably, and more efficiently," said Ian Richardson, Blue Origin's senior vice president of operations. The company is seeking to strengthen its competitive position against Elon Musk's SpaceX for commercial and government contracts in the space sector.

The expansion comes amid a launch capacity shortage in the space industry. SpaceX has curtailed commercial flights of its Falcon 9 rocket to prioritize Starship, increasing demand for other providers. Blue Origin has also faced setbacks, including a New Glenn rocket explosion on the launchpad in May, but is working to return the rocket to flight by the end of 2026.
