BlueGreen Alliance Marks 20 Years of Worker-Focused Climate Action

The BlueGreen Alliance (BGA), a coalition uniting labor and environmental organizations, celebrated its 20th anniversary during Climate Week in New York with a panel discussion focused on worker-powered climate action. Founded in 2006, the BGA is a national coalition advocating for the belief that good jobs and a clean environment are achievable simultaneously.

Key figures participating in the event included U.S. Senator Brian Schatz, United Steelworkers International President Roxanne Brown, and NRDC Action Fund President Manish Bapna. The discussion explored the BGA's two decades of experience as a unique coalition working to bridge environmental and labor interests.

Panelists addressed the BGA's success in forging consensus and advocating for policies that combat the climate crisis, create union jobs, advance racial and economic justice, and protect workers' health and rights. The organization emphasized leveraging the collective strength of its partners to achieve these goals.

BlueGreen Alliance Executive Director Jason Walsh stated the urgency of centering working people in climate policy for effective and lasting solutions. He asserted that the escalating climate crisis and rising inequality necessitate worker-powered action, which the BGA intends to continue pursuing over the next two decades.
