Bluesky's AI Assistant Attie Expands into Open Social Research Tool

Bluesky, the decentralized social media platform, is expanding the capabilities of its AI assistant, Attie. Originally designed to help users build custom social feeds without coding, Attie is now evolving into an open-ended research tool for social media data.

The new feature, named Quests, allows users to pose open-ended inquiries to Attie. The AI assistant can then search and analyze information from the broader Bluesky network, known as the Atmosphere, as well as any other applications built on the AT Protocol.

This expansion comes as Bluesky's user growth has moderated. After doubling to 40 million users in October 2026, the platform now reports approximately 45.6 million registered accounts. The development of tools like Attie is seen as a strategic move to foster further growth and explore monetization opportunities.

Jay Graber, Bluesky's Chief Innovation Officer and former CEO, highlighted Attie's role in combating misinformation. "Attie's AI is a tool that helps you make sense of the internet, helping you fight back against the proliferation of misinformation and noise by giving you the tools to find the truth yourself," Graber stated, emphasizing the company's objective to provide clarity over confusion.
