Bluetooth SIG adopts Core 7.0 standard with increased data throughput

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) has formally adopted High Data Throughput (HDT) as a core feature of the newly released Bluetooth Core 7.0 specification. The update increases the maximum bit rate for Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) connections from the current 2 Mbps to 7.5 Mbps.

This increase is primarily intended to support higher-resolution audio streaming, a sector that has previously pushed the limits of standard Bluetooth bandwidth. Beyond audio quality, the improved efficiency is expected to offer gains in battery longevity and signal reliability across connected peripherals.

Industry analysts anticipate that the first consumer devices incorporating Bluetooth HDT will become available in 2027. This move aligns with broader industry trends toward higher data demands in wireless personal area networks.
