BMW i3 Touring Electric Wagon Spied Ahead of Launch
Spy shots have revealed the first clear look at the upcoming BMW i3 Touring electric wagon. The model is built on the new Neue Klasse platform and is expected to feature advanced battery technology.

New spy photographs have provided the first clear glimpse of BMW's forthcoming i3 Touring electric wagon. This model, built upon the brand's dedicated Neue Klasse platform, aims to blend practicality with distinctive styling, suggesting it will offer substantial cargo capacity without compromising its aesthetic.
The wagon's design features a rising shoulder line towards the rear pillars, which visually reduces the size of the rear side windows and contributes to a more streamlined roofline. Despite this, the roof contour is expected to remain relatively flat, preserving rear cargo space.
Power and performance details are anticipated to mirror those of the i3 sedan. The confirmed i3 50 xDrive variant will feature dual motors producing a combined maximum output of 345 kW. BMW may also offer rear-wheel-drive versions, such as the i3 40 with a single motor delivering 235 kW, similar to other Neue Klasse-based models.
Leveraging sixth-generation eDrive technology, an 800-volt electrical architecture, and new cylindrical battery cells with a 108.7 kWh capacity, the i3 Touring is expected to offer a competitive range. While its larger size and weight compared to the sedan may slightly reduce its WLTP range from the sedan's claimed 900 km, it is still projected to surpass most electric estate competitors.
Discussions around higher-performance variants, including an M Performance model, are reportedly underway. The success of the gasoline-powered M3 Touring suggests a market for such vehicles, and future iterations could potentially include a quad-motor electric M3 Touring, incorporating technologies shown in BMW's M Neue Klasse concept sedan.
