BMW Increases Estimated Range for All-Electric iX5 SUV
BMW has revised the estimated EPA range for its upcoming iX5 60 xDrive, an all-electric version of the X5 SUV. The company now anticipates the vehicle will achieve approximately 724 kilometers (450 miles) on a single charge.

Munich – BMW has updated the projected EPA driving range for its first all-electric X5 model, the iX5 60 xDrive. Initially announced with an estimated range of 700 kilometers, the latest target has been increased to approximately 724 kilometers (450 miles).
John Kelly, Product Manager for BMW's luxury vehicle portfolio, revealed the revised range during the launch of the new X5 generation. The official EPA range figures are expected to be released in the coming weeks. BMW considers a range of 644 kilometers (400 miles) a key threshold for consumer confidence, and the increased 724-kilometer target provides further buffer for driving conditions such as highway speeds or climate control usage.
The iX5's extended range is supported by a large 144 kWh battery pack, setting a new record for battery capacity in a BMW production vehicle and placing it among the largest batteries in the SUV class. The battery utilizes 46120-sized cylindrical cells, which contribute to its increased capacity.
In terms of charging, the iX5 is reported to support charging speeds of up to 460 kW, enabling it to charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 22 minutes. The iX5 is slated for market introduction in the first quarter of 2027.
