The BMW M5 is nearing a mid-cycle refresh, with camouflaged test vehicles conducting final testing and tuning at the Nürburgring circuit. Recent spy shots reveal that the updated M5 sedan will undergo substantial upgrades both inside and out.

The current G90 generation BMW M5, which debuted in mid-2024, features a plug-in hybrid system. The refreshed model, expected to launch in 2027, will adopt design elements and in-car technology from BMW's newer generation vehicles.

Key exterior changes are focused on the front fascia, which will feature a new "shark nose" design. The iconic kidney grille will be slimmer and longer, complemented by adjusted front bumper air intakes and new LED headlights that emphasize the flared fenders. While the side profile is expected to remain largely the same, the rear will receive updated, elongated LED taillights and a revised bumper design, retaining the quad-exhaust setup.

Interior upgrades are also a significant focus. Spy photos suggest a larger central infotainment screen and a redesigned steering wheel. The integration of BMW's latest iDrive system and a panoramic display along the base of the windshield is anticipated, with a cabin layout similar to other new-generation BMW models like the i3, iX3, iX4, X5, and 3 Series.

The powertrain is not expected to change significantly. It will likely continue with the plug-in hybrid setup combining a 4.4-liter V8 twin-turbo engine with a single electric motor and an 18.6 kWh battery, producing a combined maximum output of 535 kW (727 hp) and 1000 Nm of torque. The sedan version accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 3.5 seconds.
