BMW Releases Eighth Generation of Combustion Engine 3 Series

BMW has officially launched the eighth generation of its combustion engine 3 Series, marking a new era for the brand's sedan offerings. Leading the debut is the M350 xDrive, which steps in to replace the outgoing M340i xDrive.

Visually, the new 3 Series features a revised exterior, including a darkened "kidney grille" and more pronounced lower air intakes, contributing to a sportier aesthetic. The M350 variant is further distinguished by black exterior mirrors and unique badging. At the rear, darkened LED taillights and a diffuser are paired with quad exhaust tips, enhancing its aggressive stance.

The M350 xDrive is powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine coupled with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. This powertrain produces 437 horsepower and 580 Nm of torque. Mated to an 8-speed Steptronic transmission and all-wheel drive, it can accelerate from 0-96 km/h in 3.9 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 209 km/h, but can be increased to 250 km/h with sport tires.

Inside, the new 3 Series adopts a redesigned cabin, mirroring the layout found in BMW's latest electric models. It features a large 17.9-inch infotainment display running BMW's iDrive system. The M350 xDrive comes standard with M sport seats, while other models offer optional multi-contour seats.

BMW has also made significant chassis revisions, including a double-ball joint front suspension and widened track. The M350 xDrive includes adaptive M sport suspension as standard. Furthermore, an upcoming OTA update is set to introduce a "Drift Moment" feature for the M350 xDrive, allowing it to operate in pure rear-wheel drive mode.
