Board: AI and Human Intelligence to Transform Financial Planning
Organizations are merging AI capabilities with human expertise to enhance financial planning (FP&A). AI provides data analysis speed, while humans offer strategic interpretation and guidance.

Board has outlined a strategy that combines artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and generative AI (GenAI) with human intelligence to transform Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A). This approach aims to improve strategic decision-making and address complex financial challenges.
AI and ML offer the ability to analyze vast datasets rapidly and repetitively, minimizing human error and bias. In detailed analysis, such as forecasting for product lines or customers, AI can identify patterns and trends beyond the capabilities of traditional spreadsheets.
Human intelligence remains critical. Humans possess intuition, can interpret non-digital information, and understand contexts that AI may miss, such as unpredictable global events. Human guidance is also essential for defining data requirements, directing AI analyses, and strategically interpreting the results.
According to Board, successful FP&A requires data-informed, not just data-driven, decisions. New roles like FP&A Data Scientist will bridge technical expertise with business acumen. Effective communication of complex analyses to the business by "storytellers" is also vital to ensure AI insights are meaningful and strategically sound.
