Board introduces MCP integration for enterprise planning systems

Board has introduced an integration using the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to connect enterprise AI assistants to the company’s internal planning and decision-making systems. The move aims to bridge the gap between general-purpose AI tools and the specific, structured business context required for financial and operational planning.

As enterprises scale their AI usage, a common challenge involves ensuring that AI models respect corporate hierarchies, access permissions, and deterministic business logic. Board’s approach uses the MCP standard to create a 'governed front door.' Instead of AI assistants querying raw datasets, they interact with Board’s agents, which interpret questions based on the user's defined models and metrics. This ensures that answers are grounded in the specific, vetted data versions used by the company.

The integration currently in preview allows users to perform 'what-if' analysis and query metrics directly through third-party AI interfaces like Claude. By keeping the planning logic inside Board while exposing the interface to external agents, the company seeks to maintain data provenance and security. Each request is subject to existing user permissions, audit logs, and rate limits.
