Bob the Drag Queen: Audacity and Action Over Perfection in Business

Artist and entrepreneur Bob the Drag Queen shared her business philosophy, centered on audacity and action rather than perfectionism, during her appearance at the Fast Company Innovation Festival. She detailed her strategic approach to her multifaceted career.

Bob the Drag Queen, known for her win on "RuPaul's Drag Race," has built a career extending far beyond drag performance. Her ventures include acting, Broadway appearances, a bestselling book, and founding her production company, Purse First Studios. At the festival, she revealed that her "greatest gift" as an artist and businesswoman is her aversion to perfectionism.

"I'd rather just do it and get it right the next time than try to be perfect. I am a doer," Bob stated, critiquing the mindset of perfectionists as a potential excuse for inaction.

Bob also advised creatives to accept that once art is released, its perception is out of the creator's control. She cited the long development of the "Top Gun: Maverick" trailer, which, despite immense effort, received mixed reactions, reinforcing her belief in the importance of releasing work regardless of immediate reception.

Through Purse First Studios, Bob actively supports other artists, viewing her platform as a "megaphone" to amplify their voices. While acknowledging the increased mainstream visibility of drag culture, largely due to "RuPaul's Drag Race," she considers herself fortunate to have her own voice heard.
