Boehringer Ingelheim and WHO Foundation Launch Global Health Collaboration
Boehringer Ingelheim and the WHO Foundation have initiated a three-year collaboration to improve the management of obesity and related metabolic health conditions in resource-limited settings.
Boehringer Ingelheim and the WHO Foundation announced a three-year collaboration aimed at strengthening the care and management of obesity and its related metabolic conditions, particularly in resource-limited settings globally.
The initiative is supported by a USD 5 million contribution from Boehringer Ingelheim to the WHO Foundation. The partnership intends to enhance the readiness of health systems to monitor and provide integrated care for obesity and interconnected metabolic diseases, fostering collaboration between health and non-health sectors.
Obesity presents a significant global health challenge, with over 2.5 billion adults and 390 million children and adolescents overweight in 2022. The WHO Foundation will utilize this collaboration to support the World Health Organization's (WHO) Acceleration Plan to Stop Obesity.
Boehringer Ingelheim stated that obesity and related metabolic diseases require a coordinated, long-term approach through robust health systems. This initiative builds on previous work between the partners in suicide prevention.
The collaboration seeks to promote integrated and equitable chronic care within resilient primary healthcare systems. The WHO Foundation is an independent Swiss nonprofit organization focused on mobilizing resources and building partnerships for global health.
