Boeing projects demand for 9,240 new aircraft in China over next two decades
Boeing estimates that China's commercial aviation fleet will double within 20 years, necessitating thousands of new aircraft and a massive expansion of the aviation workforce.

Boeing has released a market outlook predicting that China will require 9,240 new commercial aircraft over the next 20 years. The manufacturer estimates that 42% of these additions will serve to replace aging aircraft, while the remainder will support fleet expansion.
Currently, China operates approximately 4,500 commercial aircraft, representing the world's second-largest aviation market. Boeing attributes the projected growth to a 5% annual increase in passenger traffic, driven by an expanding middle-class demographic, eased visa requirements for travel, and sustained government investment in aviation infrastructure.
Beyond hardware, the sector will require significant human capital development. Boeing forecasts that the Chinese aviation industry will need to train 425,000 new pilots, maintenance technicians, and cabin crew members by 2046 to sustain the projected growth. This long-term outlook aligns with Boeing’s broader efforts to stabilize its commercial operations following recent quarterly reports showing narrowed net losses and improved cash flow.
