Bold Penguin Opens Digital Exchange Intelligence to Partners via API
Bold Penguin has launched DeX ai, the intelligence engine for its Digital Exchange, making it accessible to carriers and brokers through APIs. The system aims to streamline commercial insurance risk assessment and placement.

Columbus, Ohio – Bold Penguin has released DeX ai, the artificial intelligence powering its Digital Exchange, and is now offering it to external carriers, brokers, and platform partners via API interfaces, an MCP server, and agent-to-agent connections. This move opens up the infrastructure that supports Bold Penguin's own solutions for third-party development.
The DeX ai system is designed to expedite the processing of commercial insurance risks. It analyzes each submission before an underwriter reviews it, identifying risk details and matching them with carriers that offer coverage. This matching is based on carriers' actual quoting behavior rather than solely on their stated guidelines. For simpler risks, the system can automate the placement process, allowing human underwriters to focus on more complex cases.
According to Bold Penguin, its Digital Exchange facilitated $12.45 billion in premiums across more than 735,000 submissions in the past 12 months. DeX ai operates as the core intelligence layer, managing submission ingestion, market intelligence, market access, and coverage analysis.
"With DeX ai we have re-invented the digital exchange," said Peter Settel, Bold Penguin President and CEO. "Every bit of capability and intelligence built into our platform is now available as digital infrastructure... so our partners can build on Bold Penguin's expertise and scale and grow intelligently."
The company stated that eight of the top 10 commercial insurance carriers in the U.S. utilize its infrastructure. The new offering allows partners to integrate DeX ai directly into their systems, with capabilities for automated risk placement and human intervention only when necessary.
