Bolivia's Yungas Road, known as 'The Road of Death,' is considered the world's most dangerous. In Germany, Hamburg's Kieler Strasse accounts for the most traffic accidents.
The Yungas Road in Bolivia, infamously nicknamed "The Road of Death" (El Camino de la Muerte), is widely recognized as the planet's most perilous route. This 70-kilometer gravel track winding through the Andes has historically been a site of numerous fatalities, with an estimated 200 to 300 accidents occurring annually before a bypass was completed in 2006.
Constructed in 1930, the road features steep cliffs, narrow passages, and a lack of guardrails, making it treacherous, especially with unpredictable weather and frequent landslides. While still a destination for adventurous mountain bikers, its dangers are contrasted with accident hotspots in Germany. Kieler Strasse in Hamburg recorded the highest number of traffic accidents in Germany in 2022, with 53 incidents, highlighting urban traffic risks.
