Bombardier and BAE Systems sign cooperation agreement for future combat air programs

Bombardier and UK-based BAE Systems have entered into a strategic memorandum of understanding to identify potential areas of cooperation in future combat air programs. The agreement focuses on shared research and development, systems integration, workforce training, and industrial lifecycle management.

Both companies aim to build a framework that aligns their respective aerospace capabilities with government requirements and industrial objectives. By leveraging Bombardier’s experience in coordinating complex aircraft supply chains, the collaboration seeks to bolster industrial capacity for upcoming defense projects.

Stephen McCullough, executive vice president of engineering and Bombardier Defense, stated that the MOU provides a clear structure to explore how the company’s manufacturing expertise can support large-scale defense requirements. BAE Systems added that the partnership aligns with their goal to strengthen international cooperation while supporting the strategic aims of Canada’s defense industrial strategy.

The collaboration coincides with Canada’s recent involvement in the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP) as an observer nation. For Bombardier, the deal represents an effort to transition its civil aerospace manufacturing expertise into the defense sector, aiming to provide flexible, reliable assets for global military partners.
