Bombardier to supply Global 6500 aircraft for surveillance in Australia

Bombardier Inc. announced it will supply three Global 6500 aircraft to the Australian Border Force for maritime surveillance operations. The contract specifies that the defense company Metrea will operate the aircraft.

This agreement expands Bombardier Defense's footprint in Australia, a country with extensive coastlines and vast territories necessitating long-range surveillance capabilities. The Global 6500 is positioned as a versatile platform suitable for demanding special missions globally.

Metrea will manage the operations of the aircraft for the Australian Border Force. Bombardier stated that the Global 6500 offers advanced capabilities for maritime patrol, including superior range, speed, and endurance.

Bombardier has an existing presence in Australia, with its Learjet and Challenger aircraft utilized for search and rescue and medical evacuation missions. The company further strengthened its Australian presence by opening its first international Bombardier Defense office in Adelaide in May 2024.
