Bombay High Court issues dynamic injunction against online piracy of film Ramayana

The Bombay High Court has granted a dynamic injunction to prevent the unauthorized streaming and distribution of the upcoming film Ramayana ahead of its release.

3 November 2026

The Bombay High Court issued a dynamic ad-interim injunction on November 2, restricting unidentified entities from recording, uploading, or distributing the film Ramayana without authorization. The ruling targets digital platforms and service providers, requiring them to remove infringing content upon notification by the rights holder, Godpower Media Private Limited.

The legal action follows the company's concerns regarding the security of its intellectual property, including scripts and footage, after promotional trailers were leaked online despite strict preview protocols. Godpower Media, which reportedly allocated 4,000 crore rupees for the two-part film project, sought judicial protection to mitigate potential losses from theater-recorded piracy.

Under the court order, internet service providers and social media intermediaries are obligated to block or remove access to specific URLs identified by the studio. Representatives for major tech platforms indicated compliance with these instructions. This dynamic approach allows the rights holder to report new mirror websites for immediate blocking without seeking fresh court intervention each time.

The case is scheduled for a follow-up hearing on December 16, as the industry continues to monitor how dynamic injunctions are utilized to protect major cinematic releases from digital infringement.
