Boom Supersonic shifts focus to data center turbine production
Boom Supersonic is pivoting operations toward manufacturing gas turbines for AI data centers while facing skepticism over its commercial airliner delivery schedule.

Boom Supersonic, a company originally established to revive supersonic air travel, has opened a Colorado facility dedicated to producing gas turbines for artificial intelligence data centers. The strategic shift follows reports that the company is struggling to maintain its development timeline for the Overture supersonic jet.
United Airlines, a primary customer for the Overture aircraft, has publicly questioned the viability of the current 2029 delivery target. During an interview on October 28, 2026, United CEO Scott Kirby stated that the projected timeline is unlikely to be met, noting that the project will require more time than initially planned.
The redirection of resources toward energy infrastructure comes as some early investors express reservations about the company's dual-track approach. By diversifying into data center power solutions, Boom Supersonic aims to capitalize on the energy demands of the AI sector, though the move has prompted scrutiny regarding the status of its flagship aviation project.
