Borr Drilling reports rig incident offshore Gabon
Borr Drilling confirmed a punch-through incident occurred on the Prospector 5 rig during jacking operations off the coast of Gabon on October 24.
Borr Drilling Limited reported that its Prospector 5 jack-up drilling rig encountered a punch-through event at approximately 20:37 local time on October 24, 2026. The incident occurred while the vessel was performing preload activities ahead of a scheduled drilling program in Gabonese waters.
The rig is under contract to support operations for BW Energy. A punch-through occurs when one or more of a jack-up rig's legs penetrate the seabed unexpectedly during the leveling or preloading process, potentially destabilizing the platform.
Borr Drilling has not provided details regarding the extent of structural damage or the status of personnel on board. The company stated it is currently assessing the situation and working with relevant stakeholders to determine the impact on operations.
