Bosch Celebrates 20 Years of Accident Research to Enhance Traffic Safety
Bosch marks two decades of dedicated accident research, convening experts to review past achievements and future directions in preventing road incidents and mitigating injuries.

Bosch marks 20 years of accident research, focusing on traffic safety
Robert Bosch GmbH is commemorating 20 years of its dedicated accident research initiative, highlighting its ongoing commitment to improving global traffic safety. The company hosted a symposium at its Renningen campus, bringing together over 100 researchers, academics, and industry partners to reflect on the field's successes and discuss future challenges.
Bosch's accident research primarily aims to prevent traffic accidents and reduce the severity of injuries. The research leverages extensive data, including contributions from the German In-Depth Accident Study (GIDAS) project. By analyzing real-world accident scenarios and collected data, Bosch develops and refines vehicle safety systems, such as electronic stability control (ESC) and anti-lock braking systems (ABS) for motorcycles and e-bikes.
The research scope extends beyond passenger cars to encompass a wide array of mobility forms, including e-bikes, motorcycles, and commercial vehicles. The goal is to better understand risks and develop solutions that enhance safety for all road users worldwide. Bosch has also broadened its research by analyzing general road traffic and data from driver assistance systems, facilitating continuous safety improvements.
Bosch's accident research also operates internationally. The company has engaged in collaborations in countries like the USA, China, and Thailand. In Thailand, Bosch has supported the establishment of the Thailand In-Depth Accident Science (TIDAS) database, which documents fatal accidents according to scientific standards. This global approach underscores Bosch's dedication to advancing safety across diverse markets.
The accident research program, initiated in 2006, has become a cornerstone of Bosch's research and development efforts. Discussions at the symposium aim to shape future strategies to address the evolving challenges and demands within the transportation sector.
