Bosch Home Comfort: A History of Heating Solutions Since the 1930s

Robert Bosch GmbH entered the heating and hot water appliance market in the early 1930s, establishing the basis for its present-day Bosch Home Comfort Group division. The company aims to provide innovative and sustainable solutions for heating, cooling, and well-being in buildings.

The company's foray into heating technology began when Alfred Meyer, head of Bosch's patent department, sought new fields of activity beyond automotive technology. His focus on gas appliances led to the development of a safety gas switch to prevent leaks. Bosch's version, which activated within seconds, improved upon existing slower U.S. designs.

Following patent discussions, Bosch acquired the business for gas heating and hot water appliances from Junkers & Co. in 1932. Junkers was known for innovations like the world's first wall-mounted gas water heater in 1896.

By the mid-1950s, growing consumer demands for higher living standards led Junkers to develop energy-efficient gas heaters, such as the Gasiator, providing comfort and warmth. In response to changing global conditions, including the oil crisis, Bosch has more recently focused on developing sustainable solutions and alternative energy sources.
