Bosch Launched First Cordless Tools in 1969, Pioneering Battery Technology

Robert Bosch GmbH released its initial range of cordless power tools in 1969, aiming to free users from the constraints of electrical outlets and extension cords. The first products, a cordless drill and a hedge trimmer, were cumbersome, utilizing lead batteries housed in shoulder bags.

Bosch continued developing battery technology, introducing its first tool with an integrated rechargeable battery, grass shears, just under five years later. This model employed nickel-cadmium cells, offering better energy density and longevity. In 1982, the company presented its first battery-powered drill, a compact and lightweight tool with a quick-charge function.

A significant advancement occurred in 1984 with the introduction of the world's first cordless hammer drill. The GBH 24 V model was designed for professional use, enabling work in locations without access to electricity, such as scaffolding or underground sites. It featured a powerful nickel-cadmium battery designed for extended operation.

The company further advanced its cordless tool line by adopting lithium-ion battery technology in 2003. This innovation significantly improved power tool performance and reduced weight, solidifying Bosch's role as a leader in the cordless tool market.
