Bosch Research Appoints New Leadership
Robert Bosch GmbH's Corporate Sector Research and Advance Engineering is set for a leadership change effective January 1, 2025. Dr. Udo-Martin Gómez will succeed Prof. Dr. Thomas Kropf.

Robert Bosch GmbH announced a new leadership structure for its Corporate Sector Research and Advance Engineering division, known as Bosch Research, starting January 1, 2025. Prof. Dr. Thomas Kropf, who has led the sector for six years, will retire from his active role.
Dr. Udo-Martin Gómez will assume the presidency of Bosch Research. Since January 2024, Gómez has served as Executive Vice President of the Corporate Sector Research and Advance Engineering. With a background in physics and a career at Bosch since 1999, he previously held roles in micro-systems technology and strategy development. In his new position, Gómez will focus on future-oriented research in areas such as electrification, sustainability, and healthcare, and will oversee research locations in North America.
Dr. Michael Kessler, currently Senior Vice President for Digital and Artificial Intelligence solutions, will join the management team of Bosch Research. Concurrently, Kessler will take over the management of the Bosch site in Renningen. Kessler, who holds a doctorate in electrical engineering, joined Bosch in 2002 and has since led various software development and digital innovation initiatives.
During Prof. Kropf's tenure, Bosch Research underwent strategic reorganizations, establishing research portfolios in automation, digitization, AI, electrification, sustainability, and healthcare. His leadership also significantly advanced the company's AI capabilities, which are now integral to Bosch's product development and manufacturing processes. Kropf, 63, has been with Bosch for over 25 years.
