French conglomerate Bouygues is marking over 70 years of history, a journey that began in construction and has expanded into telecommunications, media, and energy services. Founded in 1952 by Francis Bouygues, the company initially focused on building housing and infrastructure in post-war France.

Rapid diversification saw the company establish a property development arm and modernize France through office and social housing projects in the 1960s. The 1970s saw Bouygues take on major civil engineering works, including the Parc des Princes stadium in Paris, and undertake its first international project in Iran.

The 1980s marked an international push with contracts in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. The group also diversified by acquiring more construction firms, including Colas, and taking a stake in the TF1 television channel. The 1990s saw the launch of Bouygues Telecom and the LCI news channel, significantly impacting the telecommunications and media sectors.

Further expansion in the 2000s included construction using the world's largest tunnel boring machine in the Netherlands and integrating digital technologies. Recent decades have seen a focus on responsibility and sustainability, including the development of solar road surfacing. In 2022, Bouygues became a global leader in energy and services following the acquisition of Equans.
