Boy develops skin condition from daily laptop use

A medical case report from the UK describes a boy who developed a skin condition on his abdomen from daily laptop use. Doctors Mara Znagoveanu and Edward Artley published their findings in BMJ Case Reports, detailing the boy's presentation at an emergency department with unexplained marks on his stomach.

The marks, covering an area approximately 15 centimeters wide, were described as flat, reddish-brown, and forming an "irregular, lace-like morphology." Neither the boy nor his parents could identify any specific injury or trauma that might explain the marks. The child was otherwise healthy and exhibited no systemic symptoms.

The condition was diagnosed as "toasted skin syndrome," an effect of prolonged exposure to low-level heat radiation, which can be generated by components like the battery or processor in laptops.

This case raises questions about the potential physical harm of digital devices, particularly for children who may use them for extended periods daily. The doctors advise caution and regular breaks during laptop use.
