bp reaches settlement with Louisiana over remaining Deepwater Horizon claims
Energy firm bp has agreed to pay the final portion of its Deepwater Horizon economic damages to the State of Louisiana in a single early lump-sum payment.

Energy major bp has reached a comprehensive agreement with the State of Louisiana to resolve outstanding legal matters stemming from the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The settlement requires bp to pay all remaining economic damages, previously scheduled over a longer timeline, as a single accelerated payment.
The agreement also concludes all remaining coastal zone litigation between the two parties. By settling these disputes, bp removes a significant layer of historical legal liability that has persisted for over 15 years.
This resolution provides financial closure for the state and simplifies bp's long-term environmental liability profile. Both entities indicated that the deal clears the path for a new administrative relationship, moving away from the litigation that has defined their interaction since the disaster.
