Bradley Survey: Handwashing Remains Crucial for Summer Health

Menomonee Falls, Wis. – As Americans travel and gather this summer, a new survey from Bradley Corporation reinforces the critical role of handwashing in preventing the spread of illness. The 17th annual Healthy Handwashing Survey™ reveals that while nearly all Americans recognize the importance of clean hands, actual hygiene practices may fall short, especially in public settings.
The survey found that 93% of Americans consider handwashing essential for their overall health. However, only 76% reported always washing their hands after using a public restroom, and a significant 77% have witnessed others neglecting this basic hygiene step. The data also indicated that 81% wash their hands more frequently during illness outbreaks, suggesting that heightened risk awareness influences behaviour.
Beyond personal health, restroom cleanliness also impacts consumer behaviour and business reputation. According to the survey, 68% of Americans are more likely to revisit a business with a clean, well-maintained restroom. This underscores the importance of hygiene for customer experience, particularly during the busy summer travel season.
