Brancott Estate Unveils Art Installation and Limited Wine Series

Brancott Estate, recognized as the birthplace of New Zealand's first Sauvignon Blanc plantings in Marlborough, has unveiled a permanent installation by New York-based designer Dror Benshetrit. Titled 'Under/standing', the 8-meter-high Cor-Ten steel sculpture comprises 52 interlocking pieces, reflecting the vineyard's geometry and Benshetrit's interpretation of Brancott Estate's winemaking philosophy and commitment to innovation.

The installation's unveiling marks the culmination of a two-year collaboration that began when Benshetrit first visited Brancott Estate in 2014. He was inspired by the winery's role in establishing the Marlborough region on the global wine map and the detailed approach of chief winemaker Patrick Materman.

Benshetrit stated his intention was to encapsulate the meticulous care and detail involved in the winemaking process, from vine cultivation to bottling, in a design that responds to the landscape and symbolizes the vineyard's ongoing transformation. The collaboration also produced a limited-edition wine range named 'Reflection', featuring a Sauvignon Blanc/Sauvignon Gris 2016 blend and a Pinot Noir 2015, with packaging designed by Benshetrit to echo the 'Under/standing' sculpture.

'Under/standing' is now open to the public at the Brancott Estate Cellar Door & Restaurant. Visitors can experience the art installation and purchase the limited 'Reflection' wines, alongside 'Present' wine racks designed by Dror Benshetrit.
