Brax unveils Wink privacy-focused modular smartphone
Brax is launching the Wink smartphone, which emphasizes privacy through hardware switches, a custom open-source OS, and a modular keyboard design.
Brax has announced the upcoming release of the Wink smartphone, a device designed specifically to prioritize user privacy and data security. The phone runs on BraxOS, an Android-based operating system stripped of Google services, telemetry, and tracking features. The source code is fully open for public review.
Hardware security is a core component of the Wink. The phone includes a physical side-mounted switch that allows users to hardware-disconnect the camera, microphone, mobile network, GPS, and various sensors. The device features a 4-inch OLED display and a removable full QWERTY keyboard module that can be swapped for an additional battery pack.
Internally, the Wink is powered by a MediaTek MT8875 processor, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage, with microSD expansion up to 1TB. Measuring 10mm in thickness, it houses a 50MP rear camera and retains a 3.5mm headphone jack. The company has committed to software updates through 2032.
The device is scheduled for delivery starting in July 2027, with retail pricing set at $700. Early bird pre-order options are available for lower price points, with secondary shipments expected in September 2027.
