Brewers and Distillers Institute Launches New Course on Beer Haze and Stabilization
The Chartered Institute of Brewers and Distillers (CIBD) has launched a new self-paced online course covering beer haze, stabilization, and filtration techniques.

The Chartered Institute of Brewers and Distillers (CIBD) has introduced a new self-assessed, on-demand technical course titled "Beer Haze, Stabilisation and Filtration." This offering aims to provide brewing industry professionals with the most current scientific information regarding beer haze and methods for its optimization or minimization.
Part of a popular series of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) short courses, the program delves into preventing haze formation during the brewing process and stabilizing hazy beer styles. It also comprehensively covers beer filtration principles, guidance on filter selection, and implementation strategies.
The course content was developed in collaboration with renowned brewing scientists and filtration experts. It includes detailed information on the composition of various haze types, target dosages for stabilizing agents, step-by-step instructions for measuring and predicting haze, and tests for assessing beer filterability. Technical specifications and comparisons of filter aids and filter types are also provided.
Stuart Howe, Technical Development Manager at CIBD, highlighted the importance of visual appeal. "Beer is judged almost as much on its appearance as it is on its flavour. As brewers we must ensure the beer we present to consumers has the clarity or level of haze required to delight," Howe stated. Upon completion, participants receive a Certificate of Completion.
