Brick releases automated device to restrict smartphone use in bedrooms

Brick has expanded its range of productivity tools with the introduction of Brick Night, a device that automatically disables specific smartphone applications via Bluetooth. Released on October 22, the tool is designed to create distraction-free zones within a home, focusing primarily on the bedroom to help users manage late-night screen time.

Unlike the company's previous NFC-based tool, which requires manual interaction, Brick Night operates autonomously. Once the user defines a list of distracting apps and a time duration, the device detects the phone's proximity and enforces the block. It covers an area of approximately 25 x 25 feet and supports multi-user connectivity.

Co-founder TJ Driver stated that the product aims to build digital boundaries into physical environments, acknowledging that while phones serve functional purposes like alarms, they often facilitate unproductive scrolling. The move comes amid growing research linking bedtime smartphone use to sleep disruption and rising public interest in reducing digital dependency.

Brick Night is currently available for purchase through the company's website for $129.
