Brim fishing vessel lands 1,890 tons of capelin in Vopnafjörður

The pelagic vessel Svanur RE, owned by Brim hf., arrived in Vopnafjörður today carrying 1,890 tons of capelin. The catch was secured in five hauls north-east of Langanes. The fish is described as high-quality with minimal feed content.

Captain Hjalti Einarsson reported that the primary fishing grounds have been located north-east of Langanes, though activity has also been noted further south. Einarsson noted that while the fish appear to be moving east and south-east, severe weather has complicated efforts in eastern areas. Currently, the fleet operating in the region includes Icelandic, Norwegian, and Greenlandic vessels.

Operational tactics have shifted to nighttime fishing, with the capelin found at depths of 70 to 80 meters. The vessels typically limit their towing times to 12 hours to maintain quality. Operations are ongoing as the company monitors fish movement patterns.
