Brim hf. fishing vessel Helga María completes successful trip despite technical issue
Brim hf. reports that its fishing vessel Helga María has returned to Reykjavík after a successful fishing trip to the Westfjords. A technical malfunction delayed the vessel by 20 hours.
The fishing vessel Helga María has completed a fishing trip to the Westfjords, returning to Reykjavík with a catch of approximately 165 tonnes. The trip experienced a 20-hour delay due to a malfunction in one of the steering jacks, which affected the autopilot. The vessel initially proceeded to the Hali grounds, where good quality redfish were found. Saithe was also caught in significant quantities. The fishing operations were proceeding well until the steering jack issue forced the crew to manually steer the vessel to Ísafjörður to source a replacement part. After the repair was completed in Ísafjörður, Helga María returned to the Hali grounds before heading south to the Látragrunn area. There, the crew reported catching cod and haddock. When the haddock catch became excessive, the vessel moved to a shallow bank off Patreksfjörður, where cod and plaice were subsequently caught. Helga María docked early on Monday and is scheduled to depart for its next trip on Tuesday. The company has been active in modernizing its fleet, with previous announcements regarding the construction of new vessels.
