Brim trawler Örfirisey docks in Reykjavík for quota year transition

Brim hf. has brought its freezer trawler, Örfirisey, back to Reykjavík for a mid-trip landing following two weeks at sea. The maneuver allows the vessel to balance its operations against the new fishing quota year, which officially commences on September 1.

Skipper Arnar Haukur Ævarsson reported a total green catch weight of approximately 400 tonnes for the duration of the trip. The vessel focused its operations on the Westfjords grounds, after an initial stint in the Skerjadjúp area where the crew targeted deep-sea redfish and silver smelt.

While moving north toward the Hali grounds, the crew encountered high concentrations of golden redfish, which complicated efforts to land saithe. Despite the challenges in optimizing the catch composition, the vessel successfully managed its stocks before returning for the scheduled port call. The vessel is expected to resume operations shortly under the new quota regulations.
