Brim trawler returns to port due to severe weather
Icelandic fishing firm Brim has recalled its vessel Helga María to Reykjavík after adverse weather disrupted operations.
The fresh-fish trawler Helga María docked in Reykjavík earlier this week following a recall order prompted by heavy weather conditions. The vessel, operated by Brim, was unable to continue its planned expedition due to the volatility of the North Atlantic conditions.
Skipper Friðleifur Einarsson reported that while the trip lasted 48 hours, active fishing was limited to only a few hours due to the storm. Despite the shortened window, the vessel returned with 55 tonnes of catch, primarily saithe and redfish. Einarsson noted that the fish quality remains consistent with typical winter seasonal standards.
The company expects the vessel to return to sea immediately, weather permitting. The crew is considering shifting operations toward the Westfjords, though regional catch data suggests modest potential. Overall, Brim maintains a positive outlook on the year's fishing performance, noting that operational challenges have been concentrated in the first half of February.
