Brim's fishing vessel Akurey moved to slipway for maintenance
Brim's fresher trawler Akurey has concluded its fishing activities for the current quota year. The vessel has docked in Reykjavík for routine maintenance and main engine overhaul.
Reykjavík – Brim hf.'s fresher trawler Akurey has been moved to the slipway in Reykjavík for scheduled maintenance. The vessel has completed its fishing operations for the current quota year.
The trawler arrived in Reykjavík on Monday morning and will be taken out of the water for work after its catch has been landed. The final trip of the quota year was a short one, yielding approximately 60 tonnes of fish.
According to skipper Eiríkur Jónsson, adverse weather conditions off the Westfjords prompted the crew to fish along the south coast. Attempts to catch saithe were reportedly unsuccessful due to neap tides, which affect the fish's presence. Fishing in the Skerja Deeps area yielded some redfish, but saithe catches were minimal. Golden redfish constituted the largest portion of the overall catch.
During its time on the slipway, Akurey will undergo routine maintenance. A significant part of the work will involve an overhaul of the vessel's main engine. These procedures are intended to ensure the trawler's operational readiness for future fishing expeditions.
