The service, accessible at rundfunkbeitrag.de/kontostand, allows users to quickly ascertain if their account is current, view upcoming payment dates, and identify any arrears or overpayments.
This digital expansion aims to meet the demand for convenient online self-service options for managing broadcasting fee affairs. According to Kai Winter, head of operations at the Contribution Service, the new tool offers a modern, efficient alternative to phone inquiries for account balance information.
To ensure ease of use and data protection, no prior registration is required. Users only need to provide their nine-digit contribution number and the account holder's date of birth to access their balance. The displayed information is limited to what is essential for the balance inquiry, and the service also offers guidance for settling any outstanding payments.
The service provides transparency by showing not only the current balance but also subsequent payment deadlines. For individuals with outstanding balances, the portal offers specific instructions on how to clear the arrears. The aim is to empower users to manage their contribution matters independently online.
This online balance inquiry is designed for individuals paying the broadcasting fee for their private residences. Businesses and commercial entities are directed to a separate service portal for managing their accounts. The service also reminds users of the convenience of direct debit (SEPA) for automatic and timely payments.
