Broken Yolk Cafe, a San Diego-based breakfast and brunch chain, has been voted the city's best destination for breakfast and brunch in The San Diego Union-Tribune's reader poll. This recognition comes after nearly 47 years of operation since the cafe first opened in Pacific Beach in 1979.
The original location became a local favorite for its scratch-made ingredients, hospitality, and generous portions. These factors have contributed to the brand's growth to 15 locations in San Diego County and a total of 42 restaurants nationwide.
Owner John Gelastopoulos attributed the continued success to both classic dishes that have been popular for decades and newer, inventive menu items that appeal to newer generations. He expressed a desire for the cafe to continue serving families and friends for many years to come.
The company has also announced plans for expansion into the Midwest, with a development agreement to open two locations in Lafayette, Indiana, marking the chain's first foray into the state.
