BT deploys 5G network slicing at Royal Welsh Show
BT is employing 5G+ network slicing at the Royal Welsh Show to support mobile payments and content sharing. The technology creates a dedicated network slice to ensure performance during peak usage periods.

BT Demonstrates 5G Network Slicing at Major Agricultural Event
BT and the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society are utilising 5G+ network slicing at this year's Royal Welsh Show. This technology provides a dedicated and protected segment of the mobile network for specific use cases, ensuring high performance even when the public network is congested.
At the event, the 5G+ slice will support mobile payment systems for Welsh food and drink companies Radnor Hills and Fire and Flank. It will also enable the show's digital teams to livestream and share content in real-time. This deployment is presented as one of the first large-scale public demonstrations of how network slicing can bolster business-critical operations and enhance customer experiences in crowded event settings.
Network slicing partitions the mobile network into separate, secured channels designated for specific applications. This guarantees that the performance of selected applications remains stable, even if the broader public network experiences heavy load. BT states this technology addresses a growing demand from organisations requiring predictable and reliable connectivity in high-demand environments.
BT plans to launch its first network slicing services for customers later this summer. The Royal Welsh Show, which can attract up to 250,000 visitors, serves as a significant testbed for the technology's real-world functionality.
